Missing Vietnamese tanker found

Singapore: The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) has revealed that the Vietnamese product tanker, Sunrise 689, which went missing on October 3 having left Singapore the day before, has been located following a giant search by plane and sea by many nation’s coast guards.  

The master of Sunrise 689 contacted Vietnamese authorities early this morning. The ship had been taken over by people carrying guns and knives who siphoned the gas oil from the tanker to their ship.

The perpetuators damaged the communication equipment and two crew were slightly injured. The current location of the Sunrise 689 is 78 nm southwest of Hon Khoai Island, Vietnam.

The Vietnam Coast Guard has dispatched their patrol ship to render assistance to the tanker which is making its way back to Vietnam. [09/10/14]
